About

More Than a Market

Our Story

The Alternative Gift Market (AGM) was founded in 1996 by Kathy Hansen and Mary Weber. It began as a way to introduce people to the idea of fair trade and to raise money for non-profits. In the beginning, the AGM was held one Sunday a year, and only involved members of First Presbyterian Church. The Alternative Gift Market has since grown significantly, and now the broader Stillwater community is involved. We have also expanded our vendors and are proud to have 6 outside vendors who come in to sell their fair trade products. Unlike craft or art sales, our products at the Alternative Gift Market are fair trade only, meaning that the artisans who make our products are given a fair working wage. Your purchase of anything at the AGM is guaranteed to make a positive difference in the maker’s life. Shop for gifts that support artisans in developing nations by fairly compensating them. The sale of these products promotes social and economic progress both here and abroad. Thank you for being part of our mission, and we hope you see you there!
